Restless Textiles untersucht die zukünftige Nutzung faserbasierter Beiprodukte der Textilindustrie. Die Arbeit präsentiert alternative Designstrategien für das mechanische Recycling und nutzt dieses nicht im Sinne eines Downcyclings, sondern zur Herstellung moderner und hochwertiger Textilien.
Durch eine experimentelle Materialuntersuchung wurden die Reste zu begehrlichen Textilien verarbeitet werden. Die Reste werden in ein Materialsystem implementiert, wodurch ihre Nutzungsdauer in Zukunft mindestens verdreifacht werden könnte. Restless Textiles ist eine Serie textiler Prototypen, die die Materialien aus dem Status des „Rest-Seins“ enthebt und sie zu einer wertvollen Ressource transformiert. Die Textilien visualisieren die vielseitigen Gestaltungspotentiale und mögliche zukünftige Verarbeitungsprozesse dieser Reste.
Restless Textiles explores the future use of cellulosic by-products of the textile industry. The work presents alternative design strategies for mechanical recycling, using it not in the sense of downcycling, but to produce modern and high-quality textiles.
Through an experimental material study, unavoidable by-products of the textile industry can be transformed into desirable textiles. The design processes are implemented in a material system, which could at least triple the use-phase of textile leftovers in the future. Restless Textiles is a series of textile prototypes that lifts materials from the status of being “leftovers” and transforms them into a valuable resource. The textiles visualize the versatile design potentials and possible future processes of these leftovers.
