Winter semester 2020/21
The assignment of forms and structures and the perceptions of the interaction of both elements serve the development of the collection concept. Fragment and empty space are implemented consistently, albeit fragmentarily, in terms of content as well as in terms of cut, in the material developments, the collection structure and drawings in the representative portfolio.

In the Renaissance and Romantic periods, the fragment as the remainder of a formerly whole or as the unfinished expressed the longing for unity and completeness. Accordingly, motifs such as ruins and torsos refer to an ideal of perfection. In the 20th century at the latest, this longing gave way to the realization that the world is always an unfinished one. There is always an angle to be added, another aspect to be considered, or new possibilities to be explored. In works of art, parts, remnants, voids, and cutouts no longer refer to a possible whole, but to the power of ruptures, which can be both destructive and creative at the same time....
The empty spaces allow the scattered elements to remain for themselves on the one hand, but on the other hand to enter into a variety of relationships with each other.
