Painting Dhaka – Master-Thesis 2021
What begins as a film accompanying a graffiti workshop in the slums of the Bangladeshi capital develops over the course of my stay in the slums of Dhaka into a thriller about the real quagmire of the country: the corrupt Bangladeshi elite that enriches itself from the poverty of its inhabitants.
The documentary short film looks behind the scenes of a society that systematically devalues its people. It documents how police and private security companies use brutal force to clear the slums on behalf of the government, how bulldozers and excavators destroy the corrugated iron huts and homes of thousands of people. I witnessed how people's livelihoods are being snatched away in the most brutal way.
In the course of my stay in Dhaka, I get more and more caught up in a spiral of knowledge about the undemocratic state of Bangladesh.
The short film is accompanied by sound recordings made on site with a mobile phone.
