No straight lines in the ocean (videoperformance), 2021
Lines.
Straight and curved, enforced and proposed.
Lines that shape our world.
They divide, define, propose, create, restrict, orient.
Lines that turn into limits, ideas, cartographies, bodies, gestures.
Some become others.
Others mark us even if they are invisible.
Others guide us even if we cannot touch them.
Some we draw with intention and others just out of habit.
A line is a violent stroke.
Or also a creative stroke.
What emerges from the tension between straight and curved lines?
A line is also in-between different things.
Neither this nor that, or perhaps both. A potential space: crisis and possibility.
The project comprises a video performance, a sculptural piece and fragmentary texts that try to explore lines in different ways.
What is the difference between the gesture of drawing lines on the body or with the body? What happens where the sea touches the sky? What emerges in these in-between spaces that we perceive as lines? How to make them tangible?
